Anointed New Life Baptist Church History ~ Year 2!

On November 12, 2008 God gave Rev. C. Diane Mosby vision for a new church in the Chamberlayne Heights area of Richmond to be called the Anointed New Life Baptist Church.  It was established based on the account as recorded in the Gospel of John 5 to provide New Life for those who are seeking healing, restoration, hope and transformation.

With the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the commitment of a core group of 15 persons the church held its first worship service on April 12, 2009, Easter Sunday at the Chamberlayne Elementary School.   426 persons were in attendance and 24 persons united with the ministry.  On that day, Rev. C. Diane Mosby became the church's founding visionary and pastor.  Rev. Kimberly Clark, Rev. Vonnie Farmer and Rev. Sandra Coleman-Walker were among those who united with the ministry during its infancy.

God gave the church very clear direction on its mission, vision and creed.  We were called to be "A Church that knows Jesus and lives to make Jesus known."  Mt. 16:13-19.  To be a church that makes an impact for the kingdom of God by diligently seeking the unsaved, reclaiming the disenchanted and making known the potential and possibilities of faith filled living for every human being by teaching God's word, experiencing God through worship and loving each other through fellowship."  Our Creed (purpose) is "To make every contact count for the cause of Christ."

Before the first service in April 2009, God charged the core group to its first outreach endeavor by providing volunteers to the Chamberlayne Elementary School as tutors and classroom assistants.  He has continued to keep our focus looking OUT to fulfill our mission.

The church held its first bible study on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at the elementary school with 39 persons in attendance.  However, due to the rapid growth in the bible study attendance and the need for additional space, in August 2009 Anointed New Life Baptist Church partnered with the Chamberlayne Baptist Church and currently holds bible study in their educational wing every Thursday at 7:00 p.m.

On June 25, 2009, the church held its first baptism service at Pilgrim Journey Baptist Church.  Two candidates, Mr. Sphergess King, and Ms. Miara Morgan were the first baptized disciples to be united with the Body of Christ through the church.

In November 2009, we were acknowledged nationally as a Baptist Church and unanimously received by the American Baptist Churches, USA and the American Baptist Church of the South under the leadership of Dr. Walter L. Parrish, II.

In April 2010, we were acknowledged and unanimously received by our local association, the Tuckahoe Baptist Association under the leadership of moderator, Rev. Robert Pettis.  We were also received as a church at the State level by the Baptist General Convention of Virginia at their Annual Session in June 2010 under the leadership of Dr. Dwight Riddick.

We have been honored to continue with an outward focus and have served in several ecumenical services and outreach ministries with the First Mennonite Church, Trinity Presbyterian, Chamberlayne Baptist Church and Chamberlayne Heights Methodist Church as we work together to serve the community in unity.

Our global Missions continue with a village in Burkina Fosa, West Africa to provide for the needs of their families and students.

In January 2011 we were blessed to send 5 missionaries as part of an ecumenical team of 12 (part of our partnership with Chamberlayne Baptist Church and First Mennonite Church) to Haiti on our first foreign missions assignment.  We were blessed to hold our first annual Silent Auction to raise funds to send our missionaries to fulfill the mission of the Gospel.

Every 5th Sunday we share in a Community In/Out Reach fellowship as we focus on our worship and praise to God and providing care, assistance and outreach to the community.

On May 16, 2010 the church was privileged by God to license its first daughter, Pamela R. Nicholson to the work of the Gospel Ministry.  He continues to bring in workers for the harvest by calling 5 Ministers in Training to this body of Christ. They are: Paula Gray, Donna Cosby, Sonya Harris, Merrill Baker and Samuel Brown.

We were also blessed by God in 2010 with Brother Samuel Brown becoming the church's music coordinator. Under his leadership we have been able to hire musicians for each Sunday morning worship service.

In July 2010 our first Youth Empowerment Service (Y.E.S) was established and the Image of Purpose (Mime Ministry), Mighty Voices of Praise (children's choir) and our youth participate in leading the worship experience each 2nd Sunday.

Our first annual Veteran's Appreciation Service was held in November 2010 with a week- long celebration of remembrance and honor.  A prayer vigil was held with our sister churches, Pilgrim Journey Baptist, Chamberlayne Baptist, and Mt. Olive Baptist participating.  As part of our outreach and love for our veterans, we were able to provide care packages to our homeless veterans for Thanksgiving.

The disciples who have united with this church work diligently to fulfill our assignment from God by living out our core values and focusing on the 3 E's; to Exalt the Lord through worship, Educate all who have a desire to learn the principles of God's word and to Evangelize the lost.

It is year two and the church continues to meet every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Chamberlayne Elementary School and continues to grow spiritually and exponentially as lives are being transformed daily.

Our focus moving forward is to "Prepare the People for the Promise" of God.  Our PP4P direction is to move us forward in preparation to ready ourselves for the promises and blessing of God.  We stand, as the children of Israel did as recorded in Joshua 3, looking toward the Promised Land, knowing that the best is yet to come.

We look forward to the future with great anticipation of how the Lord will continue to lead us to grow, mature and serve as we fulfill the Great Commission to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

"For I am God, and there is no one like me, declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, "My purpose shall stand and I will fulfill my intention."  Isaiah 46: 10 (NRSV)

 ANLBC Logo

The vision of the church's logo was given to Rev. Mosby in January 2009 and is significant to the foundation of the church:

  • The "A" represents the anointing, guidance, revelation and movement of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
  • The "Cross" represents for us the suffering and sacrifice that Jesus endured and through his atoning blood, salvation
and the gift of eternal life is available to all that accept Him as Savior and Lord of their life.
  • The "Sunburst" represents the radiance and glory of God shining upon us as we represent the Kingdom of God.
